The Basics

The Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet plan focuses on 4 principles:

  1. Calorie Shifting

Of all the diet plans I’ve read recently, I least expected to like Fat Loss 4 Idiots! I guess this is because the 4 idiots diet name sounded unprofessional, and I’d also read some bad press about the diet’s extravagant claims for super fast weight loss. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the Idiot Proof Diet after reading the material.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots actually offers 3 different ‘levels’ for you to choose from, depending on how fast you want to lose weight, and how committed you are to following a plan.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Level 1:

Losing weight slowly to moderately: The 45 page Diet Handbook offers the simplest and most basic level where you follow the 10 Rules for weight loss. The handbook is easy to read and is designed for those who want to begin losing weight but aren’t ready to follow a strict diet plan. You have probably come across most of the 10 Rules that this level advocates, such as drinking adequate water, walking daily, and cutting down on soda, processed foods, and alcohol.

So what’s new? Mostly the combination of Calorie Shifting and Carb/Protein Rotation. Both of these strategies have been around for a while, but Fat Loss for Idiots puts them together in an easy-to-follow and hopefully easy-to-stick to plan.

In case you aren’t familiar with Calorie Shifting here are the basics. You don’t count calories; instead you break your food down into 4+ meals per day. This shifting fools your metabolism into burning more of your stored fat, while allowing you to eat more calories than you normally would be able to.

With Carb/Protein Rotation you are actually using the food combining principle. Here you rotate different food combinations throughout certain meals, which helps to manipulate fat burning as well.

To assist you in following the Calorie Shifting and Carb/Protein Rotation, you are given 2 lists of foods to select from, and then given a daily schedule. You follow the schedule until you have reached your goal weight or you want to take a day off from the plan. Also, you are encouraged to walk for 45 minutes a day. You are told that if you follow these 10 rules you will begin to lose weight steadily and moderately within a few days, at about 1-2 pounds per week.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Level 2 (Most popular plan):

Losing weight quickly. You follow this plan by using the Diet Generator, which automatically plans your meals based on a list of food choices that you select. You stay on the plan for 11 days, taking 3 days off in between and then starting all over again.

This plan is the one that most people use when following Fat Loss 4 Idiots, as the Diet Generator takes the guesswork out of selecting food choices. You still eat 4 meals a day, and follow all the same rules as you would with Level 1, but you get a longer ‘cheat period’ of 3 days. You do not need to exercise in this plan, but it is encouraged of course.

Assuming you follow it closely, you can expect to lose 5-9 pounds in 11 days. For simplicity we recommend that you go with this diet to start. If you stay on it for more than a month, you may get bored with food choices that the generator gives you, but at that point you can change over to the Level 1 plan for more variety.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Level 3 (Ultimate Package Only):

The 10 Day High Speed Diet! This bonus level is contained in Beyond Calories, a special 28 page Diet Handbook. This variation on the plan follows the same principles as the other 2 levels, with the following differences:

  1. It allows you to have 6 smaller meals per day
  2. It focuses on glycemic index foods
  3. has a more strict food combining approach

The level 3 plan does not use the Diet Generator, and instead gives you lists and a schedule to choose from for combining foods/meals similar to the Level 1 plan. You do not need to exercise on this plan, but it is encouraged of course.

On the High Speed plan you’re supposed to be able to lose up to 9 pounds in 10 days. Once you complete the 10-day cycle you can take a day or two off and start over again if you wish to lose more weight, but you may want to check with a medical professional before following it for too long.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Cons:

  • Some of the ‘meals’ that the diet generator creates are odd combinations
  • No email support
  • Levels 1 & 3 can be confusing (Level 2 with Diet Generator is best!)
  • Restricts sugar, alcohol, processed foods
  • Not the best long term maintenance plan
